Unchain Your Personal Power

Hello My Lovelies,

Today I’m going to write about something a little different. Something that speaks to my heart and something I think many of us need to hear, to be reminded of, or maybe even see for the first time. What I want to talk about today, is personal power.

Personal power, you ask? What on earth does that have to do with fashion? A lot, actually. How do you feel when you walk out the door perfectly put together, maybe in your favorite suit, or maybe in that pair of jeans that hugs the tush just right? Self-confident, right? Does that  not feel powerful to you?
It sure does to me! and I read something today that helped me to realize why I love helping women to not only dress their particular body type, but to find their unique sense of style. And that is because I LOVE to see my clients SHINE! I love to see their face lit up, their eyes sparkling and that special tilt of their head and lilt to their walk that I know means they feel fantastic. I love to help my clients find a sense of personal power. Maybe it’s just a small part of their personal power, but that’s the part that I find I’m passionate about.

So here’s the quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other  people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson

So who ARE you to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? You are YOU – and that’s all you need to be. Each of us is unique and each of us is given special gifts to share with someone. And I’ll bet you are a light to more than a handful of people. If not, maybe you’re playing it small, as I have been of late. With the state of the economy, and I don’t know, maybe it’s just the state of the world in general, but I’ve been watching myself and my friends all rolled over by life in the last – oh- just ten or so years. But I for one, am ready to take my power back. I’ve seen me start shrinking into myself and feeling like a victim and I’ve seen it in my friends as well. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to take my power back. I’m tired of playing small, feeling insignificant and struggling. I’m picking myself up, dusting myself off and encouraging my friends to do the same.

I’ve been thinking lately of the boss I once had who told me I’m “larger than life.” I felt a bit surprised at the time, but when I thought about it, I FELT larger than life. I felt like there wasn’t a thing I couldn’t accomplish if I set my mind to. And I’m realizing that with all of the bumps and bruises, somewhere along the way, I’ve lost that feeling. And that feeling, my compadres, is what I recognize as Personal Power. Today, I intend to start claiming it back. Today, I pledge to let my light shine. I hope you’ll join me on this journey. Stay tuned for updates, I’ll let you know how it’s going and hopefully post some more inspiration here along the way.

And seeing as how I have such a passion for fashion, I’m sure I’ll be back with some more style tips as well. 😉
